HealthFest 2011

Date:
April 2011

Over 500 people attended the second annual HealthFest in Plano, TX on April 2, 2011. Dr. Pescatore's presentation on gut health - a new approach to weight loss - generated plenty of interesting discussion. This topic is also featured in his book, Boost Your Health with Bacteria. We have so many more bacteria in our bodies than we do actual cells that they must be there for a reason. Well, they are there for many reasons and the Human Micro Biogenome Project which is being funded by the NIH will hopefully shed some light on that topic. Weight loss and weight maintenance is one of those reasons. The bacteria in our bodies tend to get unbalanced, whether due to stress, antibiotic usage (which kills the good bacteria as well), steroid use, hormone use, oral contraceptive use, etc. In terms of weight management, they are there to help us absorb and metabolize food. When there is an imbalance, we need to eat more because we aren’t absorbing the same amount of nutrients from the same amount of food – therefore, we need more food to get the same nutrition and more importantly nutrients. When the body craves nutrients, you will experience hunger more often throughout the day and hence you will tend to eat more. It’s really that simple. Balance your body in any and every way that you can and weight management become a simple rather than arduous task. View the flyer for a list of the other presentations, and check out the gallery below. See you next year!
